West Desert Airpark is a grass-roots aviation community where light aircraft are the majority, not the minority. This is a place to foster the passion for aviation. Mark Pringle broke ground on the airpark in 2002 and started with six hangars and a grass runway. Over the next few years, he added 12 more hangars, a clubhouse for aviators to gather, relax and share stories and later even paved the runway. With each new year, more development brings new opportunities for our aviation community at the airpark. |
We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our new runway, now measuring 5,200 feet long and 60 feet wide. As a public runway, many of you have already enjoyed landing here—wonderful to see you!
We’d like to reach out to all pilots for your assistance regarding flight patterns, especially considering the nearby town just north of the runway, approximately 1 mile off the end of Runway 17.
We kindly ask that you turn your base and/or crosswind before reaching the town. If possible, aim to maintain a .5 to .8 nautical mile distance on downwind, base, and final approaches. As outlined in the PHAK and AIM, a downwind leg should be around 1,000 feet AGL and ½ to 1 mile from the runway, with a turn to final at least ¼ mile out. And if you need to execute a long landing, that’s perfectly okay—safety is always our top priority!
Please note that Runway 17 is our preferred calm wind runway for noise abatement.
The town has been incredibly supportive in approving our runway, and we want to be good neighbors.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or Alina Pringle, our airport manager.
We truly appreciate your cooperation and support—please spread the word, and keep flying!
